Composed of five year six students, the team are one of just eight top teams across the entire state.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, most of the debates needed to be conducted remotely using Zoom video conferencing, which added another challenge.

Teacher and coach of the team Robyn Delves said she was 'extremely proud' of the students success.

"As a coach, I am extremely proud of their ability to think logically under pressure and to constantly work at improving their skills," Mrs Delves said.

"Their dedication paid off when they met Deniliquin North Public School in the Riverina final."

On winning the final, the adjudicator complimented the students on their well-explained arguments, strong rebuttal and excellent teamwork.

Following the win, the Daring Dolphins went on to compete in the state quarter-finals against Timbumbura Public School but, after a very close contest, they were unfortunately defeated.

Abbey Martin said that debating had been an 'amazing experience' for her whilst her teammate Jayli O'Connor said that the skills learnt in debating helped her 'think on her feet' to develop good arguments and rebuttals.

"My debating experience has boosted my self confidence and persuasive writing skills," Abdurrehman Syed Khaja said.

"Since joining the debating team I have learnt many skills like thinking on my feet, I can also now speak in front of people with confidence," Daniel Mitchell said.

And whilst the team will all be off to high school soon and their primary school debating days are behind them, Mrs Delves says she will continue to encourage the students to continue debating.

I will certainly be encouraging them to continue debating at high school, as it teaches so many valuable and life-long skills," Mrs Delves said.

"Being able to represent my school, Griffith North Public School, my town, Griffith, and even my region, Riverina, has been absolutely amazing," Sophie Webb said.

"It was an experience I will never forget."
