It was a successful return to the middle for the Exies Eagles, who were able to take their first win of the season with a 63-run win over the previously undefeated Hanwood.
Hanwood headed into the game without normal opening duo Tom Shannon and Oliver Bartter and key bowler Luke Docherty and the Eagles looked to take advantage of that after winning the toss and electing to bat.
Looking to make a strong start with the bat, Peter Davis and Aditha Jayasuriya made their way out to the middle and were able to put on 23 for the opening wicket before Josh Carn (1/16) struck in his third over to remove Jayasuriya (10).
Davis was joined by Eagles captain Craig Burge and looked to make the most of the start and push on towards a solid total.
The pair got their side to 1/59 at the first drinks break in the 17th over, but the bowling of Todd Argus slowed the scoring as the Exies batters struggled to get him away.
Argus (1/8) struck in the 23rd over to see Davis (23) dismissed with the score on 77.
Connor Bock joined Burge in the middle, and they tried to lift the scoring rate, but with the score on 102, Bock (11) was the next to depart after he was caught by Argus off the bowling of Dean Catanzariti.
The Hanwood side looked to dry up the run-scoring with four quick wickets starting with Craig Burge (39), the Eagles lost 5/5 with Angus Bartter (5/40) doing the damage.
Some late runs from Duane Ashcroft (30) saw the Eagles reach 153 when they were bowled out in the 46th over.
Hanwood's new opening combination of Pardeep Deol and Jordan Whitworth would have been looking to make a strong start, but the bowling of Arjun Kamboj put the pressure on with the early wickets of Deol (0) and Catanzariti (2).

Whitworth and Corey Graham looked to try and get their side back on track with a 34-run partnership which was broken by Sanil Chilukuri, who picked up both Whitworth (17) and Graham (18) in the space of an over.
Hanwood's middle order was going to need to stand strong if they were to have any chance of chasing down the target sitting at 4/52 with captain Charlie Cunial and Taranjit Mankoo out in the middle.
The reprieve was short-lived as Duane Ashcroft (1/22) picked up the wicket of Cunial (11) while Chilukuri was proving difficult to deal with as he knocked over Mankoo (10) and found himself on a hat-trick when he trapped Gulfam Ahmed (0) in front.
Sam Robinson was able to see off the hat-trick delivery and tried to give his side a chance with some lower-order runs.
Chilukuri (7/38) put any thoughts of a late fightback to bed as he picked up the wickets of Robinson (16), Angus Barrter (0) and Josh Carn (0) to finish with seven wickets for the day and see Hanwood bowled out for 90 in the 22nd over.
