Elaine Pringle is the president of the club, and said that the best plants to be looking into for summer planting are petunias or vinkas.
"Succulents and geraniums are all year-round as well. The first flush of roses is done now, but they should come again in Autumn."
"You can also plant hollyhocks," Rhonda Romagnolo added.
She added that summer was usually a time for preparation, and that the focus should be on keeping existing plants alive through the difficult season.
"Now is the time for prep, that's really all we do in summer. Just keep them going until Autumn ... it's a good time for weeding as well," said Ms Pringle.
On trees, they suggested that Jacarandas can be a nice addition, but messy.
To keep plants alive, they said the keys were simple.
"You've got to be watering, that's it. You need to keep them watered. Lots of mulch will be helpful as well, and just look out for snakes," Ms Pringle said.

The gardening club is encouraging the community to take advantage of the community gardens near City Park.
Dawn McIntosh, a member of the club, said that she would like to see some more vegetable patches in the gardens.
"I had the idea that the community garden would be plots of lettuce and tomatoes, so there's opportunities there... community gardens should always have some vegies," she said.
