Fire and Rescue NSW Griffith turned out to the blaze just before 3:00 in the morning, after a busy 24 hours the day before. The crew had responded to multiple calls in the day preceding and was hoping to get a much-needed break.
The crew had responded to the same house on Friday September 17, entering and searching the house after reports that somebody was inside. The report was found to be a misreport and nobody was hurt in the blaze.
"Police were able to confirm that it was a misreport, and no one had entered the house, but our crews had conducted a search, and the house was vacant," Duty Commander Matt Hunter said at the time.
The fire-prone building is a vacant house, and investigations are ongoing into the cause of the fires. It's currently being treated as suspicious, in part due to the close timeframe of the fires.
In lighter news - firefighters might not have had the break they were hoping for, but they were able to enjoy a breakfast of bacon and egg rolls delivered to the station by a Griffith local.
