The Australian basketball legend will be responsible for delivering the Women and Girls' strategy, government relations and broader strategic partnerships.
It has been highlighted as a passion for Jackson, who on top of her successful basketball career has pursued academic qualifications in gender and diversity.
After coaching the Albury-Wodonga Bandits' women's team in the 2019 NBL1 competition, Jackson has since spent the last two years leading the WNBL.
"In my new role the goal is simple, provide more opportunities for more girls through funding, advocacy, resourcing and mentoring," Jackson said.
"Having spent time working with all levels of governments, I'm very heartened by their commitment to putting numbers to success and funding programs that make a difference."
Jackson was recently officially enshrined into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
She was also named in the WNBA's top 25 players of all time this month.
Her goal is now to provide the next generation with opportunities to also be their best.
"I started my playing journey wanting to be the best player I could be, now my focus is to ensure success for the next generation of girls," she said.
