Budget Direct's annual safety rankings show Darlington Point towards the bottom of the list

The report covers 570 postcodes across the state, ranking them based on number of property-based crimes per 1000 properties and ruling them as either low, medium or high-risk areas to live.

While across the Riverina, Berriedale in the Tumut region came in as the third safest suburb in NSW, Coree South and Argoon performed best for the Murrumbidgee at spot 194 and 203 respectively.

Out of twelve postcodes covered by the Murrumbidgee region, Coree South and Argoon were the only ones to make it into the top 50 per cent.

The rest of the area is found on the lower end of the scale, with areas like Myall Park showing significant increases in crime over the last three years.

Myall Park was in the top 11 per cent in 2017, but dramatic increases in property crime have led to it being in the lowest 30 per cent in 2020.

Darlington Point is at spot 557, just thirteen positions above the lowest position.

Budget Direct's Jonathan Kerr said that the release wasn't intended to be definitive.

"While you might be fortunate enough to live in a lower-risk suburb, it is still very important that you take actions to minimise your risk of home theft as this can happen to anyone," he said.

"Whether you're looking for your first home or an investment property, it is really useful to be able to look at the property crime rate of your desired suburb."

Budget Direct is hoping to release updated interactive maps in the future. Recent research from the company showed that almost a quarter of Australians were now more concerned about home invasions in their suburbs thant they were at the same time last year.
