Motor Neurone Disease (MND) is seven times the national average in the community, and with no known cure the support group hopes to offer support, equipment, financial help and more to make life easier for those suffering from the disease.
And as the rates of MND within the Griffith community have continued to grow, with potential ties to toxic blue green making national headlines in the process, the city's only MND support group is asking for more people to get involved to meet the demand.
Committee member of the support group, Sharon Brown said that many in the local district would know someone currently sufferring, or someone who had passed away after diagnosis.
"We are a point of contact for Motor Neurone sufferers in our community who ring for advice, equipment and even transport from home to medical appointments" Mrs Brown said.
"It would be such a shame if our support group folded because we didn't have enough volunteers to meet the demand in the community, especially as Motor Neurone Disease rates are so high in and around Griffith."

MND causes progressive muscle weakness, reduces the ability to speak and breathe and over time and leads to complete paralysis, with an estimated three year lifespan once diagnosed.
"It is devastating to be diagnosed but we are here for you" Mrs Brown said.
"Our support group really does provide such invaluable services, I would really encourage community members to get involved and be rewarded by the fulfilling and much needed work we do."
