In what has been described as a 'unanimous' decision, the Griffith Show Society voted to postpone the event, now in its 99th year, by one month in the hopes that it can be held safely and to the same extent that it has in previous years.
Griffith Show Society President Brett Brown said that the uncertainty of the COVID pandemic, and the fact that many of the shows supplies, competitors and patrons are drawn from all over NSW and beyond had made it impossible for the Show to go ahead as planned.
"We felt the risk factor was too high to hold the Show at it's usual time over the October long weekend and will continue to monitor the situation in the coming weeks and months" Mr Brown said.
The annual agricultural shows in Leeton, Wagga and Albury - Wodonga have also all be postponed whilst a number of smaller regional shows across the state have been cancelled altogether.
Mr Brown said that the Show Society would also not hesitate to cancel the show if they felt that was the best decision of the health and safety for the Griffith community but would continue to work closely with other agricultural shows in the region in the meantime.

And whilst the next few months will have to be played by ear, if the postponed show is able to go ahead on its yet to be confirmed date in November, it will look a bit different.
"Our aviary show won't be able to go ahead as all the birds and chickens will be malting, the flowers will not be ready and in bloom and the veggies will have finished up for the season" Mr Brown said.
However, the Show Society hopes they can make additions and go ahead with a modified version of the show that was still representative of the agricultural prowess of the region.
"We are excited to go ahead with a modified version of the show and if any community members have any ideas as to how to make this happen please don't hesitate to reach out" Mr Brown said.
The Griffith Show Society meets on the second Monday of each month under the grandstand at Griffith Showground.
