The Griffith Athletics Zone Carnival featured up to 344 young competitors from 11 primary schools across the region.
The students qualified for the event through their school's own athletics carnival and competed in shot put, discus, long jump and more, pushing themselves to the limit despite the wet conditions.
Jill Vaesan, sports coordinator of Hanwood Public School, was the organiser for the zone carnival this year and said there was an excitable mood among the children.
"The day started off pretty wet but we pushed through and in the end we definitely had a fun day with all the kids," Mrs Vaesan said.
"The kids had a ball. They started off the races a bit shivery but they were definitely excited considering they didn't get to have a zone carnival last year."
