A 51 year old woman has been arrested after a high-speed pursuit through the streets of Griffith. The woman was disqualified from driving before her arrest.
The woman was driving a Honda Civic down Thorne Road when she was instructed to stop by police. After ignoring the instruction, police activated lights and sirens and the woman fled.
She reached speeds in excess of 170km/h in her attempts to evade police, and continued driving dangerously fast in built-up areas with speed limits of 60km/h.
After narrowly avoiding a collision, the woman turned onto Walla Avenue and onto Erskine Road, where she crossed the intersection into Moses Street, clipped a power pole and collided with a corrugated iron fence.
The woman then fled police on foot, running into a nearby house and into their backyard. Police pursued the woman through several properties before apprehending her.
She was arrested and taken back to the station, where she has been charged with five counts of police pursuit, driving dangerously, driving a vehicle during a disqualification period, exceeding speed over 45m/h and two counts of entering closed properties.
She has been denied bail and given a court date for later in the month. Nobody was injured during the chase.
