Griffith Blacks defeat CSU Reddies in Southern Inland Rugby League

The home side was able to make a flying start as after forcing a turnover, Samuel Viran getting over in the corner in the second minute, and it didn't take long for there to be a second.

It was a strong start to the match with another turnover at the breakdown resulting in a try from Nawi Rokocika to give the Blacks a 12-0 lead.

The heavens opened in the midway stage of the first half, and the game turned into a slog with both sides unable to find a way through the defence, and the Blacks held their 12-point advantage into the break.

CSU was able to make the start they would have been after at the start of the second half as they made the most an outnumber out wide, and Jordan Widders got over in the corner.

The Reddies pushed hard against the Blacks defence, but they stood tall in the challenging conditions.

The Blacks were able to get their third try of the game when Talilotu Uoifalelahi barged his way over the line, and it started a bit of a roll for the home side.

Jullian Marela-Kirirua was the next to find his way over while Eddie Sekali followed him over three minutes later to give the Blacks a 24-point win.

While being happy with his side at stages throughout the game, coach Chris McGregor knows there is still work to do with big games approaching.

"The first 10-15 minutes we looked really good, but we still need to improve our attitude and keep the pressure on sides," he said.

"Against the good sides in the competition, they will put us away."

With four wins from four grades, it was a great day for the club on a day the club remembers a former player.

"The Groat family were here and to represent the family is a great thing," he said.

"It was another Blackout which makes it three in a row, so as a club, we are progressing forward.

"We had another four boys play their first game in first grade, and I think that is the 12 or 13 that I have counted that have played their first game for first grade this year.

"It's a big thing for the club because I have always said we are building to build a club, not just a first-grade side."

The win for the Blacks moves them further away from the chasing back, which has closed after Tumut defeated Albury.
