But with some confusion around access to the rollout, here is your guide to who is eligible, where they can book and which vaccine they can get.
Where can you get Pfizer?
Over the next week, the Pfizer vaccine will be available for eligible patients from the following clinics, all of whom are also already providing AstraZeneca:
- The Griffith Vaccination Hub at Your Health Griffith from Monday, July 5
- Kookora Surgery from Wednesday, July 7
- The Griffith Medical Centre from Monday, July 12
- Murrumbidgee Medical and Primary Care Centre (Leeton) from Wednesday, July 7
- Leeton Medical Practice from Monday, July 12
Where can you get AstraZeneca?
The following GPs and clinics are also currently providing AstraZeneca vaccinations in the MIA, but do not know when they will receive the Pfizer vaccine:
- Leeton Medical Centre
- Darlington Point Medical Centre
- Coleambally Medical Centre
Who is eligible for Pfizer?
Since the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) reviewed the official health advice, Pfizer is now preferred and available for all eligible patients under 60.
"Eligible patients" include anyone aged 40-59, as well as quarantine and border workers, health care workers, aged care and disability care residents and staff, defence, police, fire, emergency services and meat processing workers.
Anyone aged over 16 with an underlying medical condition, a significant disability or an outwards travel exemption is eligible, as are Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Who is eligible for AstraZeneca?
Everybody over 18 is eligible for the AstraZeneca vaccine. The vaccine is, however, preferred for over 60s. Anyone under 60 who has already received their first dose of the vaccine without experiencing serious health effects is recommended for a second jab.
Updated advice now also allows anyone under 60 who consults with a GP regarding the risk of blood clots to volunteer for an AstraZeneca jab, and they can book in at any Griffith or MIA clinic.
How to book?
To book yourself in for a vaccine, simply visit the Health Department's COVID-19 Vaccine Eligibility Checker. After filling out your details you will be shown the contact details for clinics near you, which you can use to make a booking.
