The students organised a 'Green Day' to support the van, asking students and staff to wear green clothes for a gold coin donation and selling baked goods from the visiting van.
The food was all coloured green to reflect the van's colour scheme, adding to the theme of the day.
Some classes through the day were invited to tour the van and ask questions about the program, which provides food for families and individuals facing hardship in Griffith and the surrounding areas.
At the day's end, the school had raised $1322 for the Carevan, and are planning to present the donation next week at a school assembly.
Lisa Malone, a teacher at Griffith East Public School said it was one of their best fundraisers yet. The school hopes to run one fundraiser per term, and the students have decided to alternate between supporting local charities and national ones.
"We're really pushing a stronger student voice at the moment, getting the kids responsible for driving these events ... I'm just really proud of the student voice and of them taking control of these kinds of things."

Miss Malone was pleased with the different charities the schools have supported, ranging from grassroots support to national awareness campaigns. The staff and SRC aren't slowing down though, and are already looking ahead.
"In the past we've done fundraising for epilepsy, we've done Jeans for Genes, we've done things for SIDS ... we'll have another meeting soon to discuss what next."
The coordinator for Carevan, Janice Sartor was at the fundraiser and was thrilled with the response.
"It was a really fun fundraiser, it was a nice surprise. That money's going to buy groceries for the next couple of months ... we're very grateful to the students and all the parents as well."
