The rebate is available for the 2021 financial year and aims to help small businesses recover from the impact of COVID-19 by reducing some of the upfront costs of running a business.
While the money can be used for any governmental fees or charges, it cannot be used to pay any fines or penalties, to prevent misuse. The money also can not be used to pay rent, even on government premises.
Despite these restrictions, the rebate scheme promises to greatly assist small businesses in their upfront costs and the owners of businesses are looking forward to making use of the boost.
Anna Ryan, the owner of Hip Digs on Banna Avenue, is especially keen to have received a surprise email informing her of the grant.
"I actually just got an email telling me about it, so I'm excited. It's just out of the blue, I really wasn't expecting it."

Miss Ryan confirmed that she was planning to apply for the rebate, so that she could leave aside some money for other costs.
"I don't really know... it will probably just go to running costs, maybe buy some more stock."
The rebate is open for applications from now and is open to small businesses with a turnover of over $75,000 per year. Not-for-profits are also encouraged to apply, provided they too have a turnover of over $75,000 per year.
NSW treasurer Dominic Perrottet committed $500 million to the rebate in last November's budget, and is keen for all eligible businesses to apply for the full amount.
"Small businesses are the lifeblood of our economy... I encourage all eligible operators to register for the $1500 credit with Service NSW."
Minister for Finance and Small Business Damien Tudehope is also in favour of the plan.
"We want to make it easier for them to run a business and get ahead."
Information on how to apply for the rebate is available on the Service NSW website.
