Business development manager Steve Bowmaker spoke to the Combined Pensioners and Superannuants Association today to address concerns raised by the community regarding the proposed estate, which promises an affordable option for over-55s looking to downsize.
Mr Bowmaker was quick to assure attendees that the village would be above board, aiming to complement the surrounding area to avoid negatively impacting house values.
The CPSA has come out in support of the plan.
Colin Beaton, current president of the Griffith branch said "we've got no vested interest in it... it's another option and it frees up other accommodation in town.
"The Department of Housing aren't building any more," Mr Beaton said.
IN OTHER NEWS:
The estate will host over 120 houses, with the hope that this will free up corresponding numbers in the region for young families to move in and bolster the local economy.
Concerns were raised about Lincoln Place potentially selling the land while residents still occupy it, as well as potentially unexpected increases in the lease. This was promised to be addressed in the lease agreement, and potential residents were encouraged to seek legal advice throughout the process.
There were also concerns raised about the possibility of residents subletting their homes to others. While this is allowed in specific situations, for example subletting to a relative while on a trip, community rules will allow this only once in any three year period.
Lucy Taylor was keen on the idea but hesitant to commit, saying "I'd rather stay in my own home as long as I can, but I live out of town. If I lost my license or couldn't drive, it's good to know the options."
Lincoln Place has secured DA approval for the development, and are currently waiting on subdivision approval and a construction certificate.
Construction is expected to begin later this year, however contractors have not yet been finalised.
