Leading Edge Data Centres (LEDC) are set to construct the facility in 2022 as part of a "first of its kind" project to deliver better internet connectivity to regional Australia.
Local businesses will be able to sign up to use the centre, which promises to speed up network connectivity by "keeping Griffith's data local".
Currently, any time the internet is used in Griffith data has to travel all the way to Sydney and back.
This centre will speed up their network connectivity and make it easier for [local businesses] to do business.
- Lauren Ryder, LEDC Chief Experience Officer
The centre will take that travel out of the equation for the businesses on board, "dramatically improving" their connection speeds.
This could also potentially improve speeds for Griffith residents by removing a significant amount of traffic from the NBN.
LEDC Chief Experience Officer, Lauren Ryder, said the service would be "really valuable" to local agriculture and manufacturing businesses, transport and logistics companies, and IT providers.
"A lot of farming and manufacturing industries are using a lot of sensors and IoT devices that are processing lots and lots of data, whether it be drones or machines," Mrs Ryder said.
"This centre will speed up their network connectivity and make it easier for them to do business."
The Griffith facility will be a tier 3 data centre, which Mrs Ryder said is the same as you would find in a major city but on a smaller scale.
More than a dozen other centres are being built across regional Australia.
"We did a bit of travelling and we realised 'hang on, there are real connectivity issues here'", Mrs Ryder said.
"When COVID came internet speeds just plummeted across Australia and regional cities felt it the worst.

"It's really about trying to help regional communities have that same metropolitan experience ... this is very much first of its kind in Australia."
Leading Edge Data Centres will be in Griffith next week to answer questions about the upcoming facility and how local businesses can get involved.
There is an information session at 10am on Monday, February 22 at Griffith City Library.
Attendence can be registered online.
