Aspiring students heading into a range of future careers were awarded Country Education Foundation scholarships on January 20 at the annual presentation night in Darlington Point.
"Our recipients are studying a range of courses including agriculture, nursing, early childhood teaching, international hotel management, social work, para-medicine, commerce, communication, physiology & rehabilitation, outdoor leadership and occupational therapy," Penny Sheppard from the Coleambally/Darlington Point Country Education Foundation said.
"Many hope to bring their professional skills back to our community or rural Australia."
The Country Education Foundation of Australia awards scholarships to regional students with funding sourced from universities and other organisations. Ms Sheppard says that being a member of the CEF brings many rewards for young people.
"So far we have received funding from the Thyne Reid Foundation and the Three Rivers University Department of Rural Health," Ms Sheppard said in a statement.
"Our membership of the Country Education Foundation of Australia is well rewarded and for that we must thank the hard work of the staff led by Juliet Petersen CEO and the team at the Orange headquarters."
It's been a difficult year for fundraising for the initiative said Ms Sheppard with COVID-19 impacting events and travel.
"This has been an interesting year for our non-profit organisation with the lack of opportunities for fund raising and we have depended greatly on donations and successful grant applications," Ms Sheppard said.
"Thank you to our supporters."
The inaugural Ella Painting Memorial Grant was awarded to James Lyell. This grant is in memory of a young woman who lost her life in a tragic car accident on her way to university in 2020. She was a 2020 grant recipient who was passionate about working with young children.
The Coleambally-Darlington Point CEF congratulate the 2021 grant recipients,
