Deanna Bordin was at work January 22 when she got a call from her daughter Melyn Salvestro.
"I said to mum I don't know how to tell you this but your house is on fire," Mrs Salvestrso shared.
Sometime around 10 am that morning Mrs Bordin's house of 23 years caught fire. Within an hour she had lost memories, years of work and hopes for the future.
"When I arrived home to see my house alight and everybody was yelling and hoses going everywhere I just stood there and cried. I couldn't do anything else," Mrs Bordin, a care worker with Australia Unity said.
The working, single mother of three lived in the house with her 35 year old son Rodney who has Autism. Mrs Bordin said he is struggling to deal with this sudden and devastating change.
"He's not coping well with the loss because every day he wants to go back and get his memorabilia out. He's a really mad Melbourne Storm supporter and he had thousands of dollars of memorabilia of everything you can think of," she said.
"He doesn't understand that he can't go back there and get them."
Thankfully insurance is taking care of Mrs Bordin and her son until February but she is left with so much uncertainty of how she will be able to rebuild her life.
"I've had to struggle for everything I have in life," Mrs Bordin said
"It's all still very raw. We are not quite sure yet if it's going to be demolished or not. I don't know anything.
"I really just have to wait and see. I just have to be patient."
Despite Mrs Bordin's objections, daughter Sophie Bordin has started up a Go Fund Me page to help get her mother and brother back on their feet.
"I just want to thank everyone for their comfort and support," Mrs Bordin said.
"I want to thank everyone who has reached out and shown their love for me."
