Shooter, Fishers and Farmers MP Mark Banasiak travelled to Griffith to talk education and environment

Mr Banasiak spoke with concerned teachers and parents from Murrumbidgee Regional High School about the teacher shortage, as well as representatives from Griffith fishing clubs and members of the Griffith gun club.

He has 15 years experience as a high school teacher on the east coast, and was critical of how the situation at Murrumbidgee Regional High School had been handled.

As a member of the Upper House, Mr Banasiak said he is in the position to bring the concerns of parents and teachers directly to the relevant people, such as NSW Minister for Education Sarah Mitchell.

"We've got the budget estimates process where I get to drill down and question the bureaucrats and not just wait 30 days for an answer," he said.

"I've got access to the Minister for Education, and I can keep hounding her, and that's what I plan to do ... because to put it bluntly, she's putting her head in the sand and not acknowledging the issues that are here."

He said he would take what he hears on the ground here in Griffith, to try and push for change at a higher level.

"We need to look at that and be fair-dinkum about tackling that issue because it's our kids," Mr Banasiak said.

"We can't persist with a merged school which clearly hasn't worked."

Mr Banasiak also met with representatives of Griffith's fishing clubs to discuss issues with the quality of waterways and the high cost of fishing licenses.

He said the fishers and their "concerns about the ecology of the river" could hopefully provide another voice to the call for a royal commission into the Murray Darling Basin plan.

During his visit the MP also travelled to Leeton, where he met with the Leeton and Yanco fishing clubs. He also spoke with the Leeton Shire Council to discuss the dividing fences bill.

He then drove to Hay, where he spoke with Gordon Turner and Ferguson McLachlan on their concerns for Wyangala Dam.

Mr Banasiak was in the region from Thursday, December 17 until Friday, December 18,
