According to the Bureau of Meteorology, temperatures on Friday will reach 41 degrees, while Saturday will be windy and could get as high as 43 degrees.
Things will cool down on Sunday, with a maximum of only 33 degrees.
As a result of the projected heat, Murrumbidgee Local Health District is calling for people to take the risk of heat-related illness seriously.
People should drink plenty of water, stay indoors as much as possible, close curtains and either bring pets inside, or make sure they have some shade, they advised.
Local health director, Tracey Oakman said that while heat-related illness can hit anyone, certain groups are especially vulnerable.
This includes people over 75, infants, sufferers of chronic illnesses, and people who live alone.
"Every year hot weather and heat waves cause illness, hospitalisations and sometimes even deaths," she warned.
Local cricket competitions in Griffith have already been cancelled as a result of the temperatures.
Griffith is not alone in expecting extreme heat, with a severe fire warning issued as some parts of NSW brace for a heatwave.
The extreme heat and heavy winds in some parts of NSW have caused Very High and Extreme fire risk warnings, the NSW Rural Fire Service tweeted on Thursday.
