The Murray electorate already takes in part of Murrumbidgee Council area, with Darlington Point and Coleambally.
The proposed changes will mean all of Murrumbidgee Council will represented by Member for Murray Helen Dalton.
The Murray electorate runs from Leeton, Hillston and Berrigan all the way to the border with South Australia.
Mrs Dalton said the expansion of the electorate was costing country people their voice in parliament.
"My seat is already much bigger than Scotland, at 107,000 sq kms," Mrs Dalton said
"It's set to be made even bigger.
"The NSW Electoral Commission panel says the Murray River region is losing population, so the seat needs to be expanded."
She said something needed to be done to reverse the trend of country seats getting bigger, while city seats grow smaller.
"The NSW Government need to urgently look at why people are leaving small towns, and work on reversing that trend," Mrs Dalton said.
"Simply increasing the size of seats is not the answer, it just disenfranchises neglected country communities even more.
"It means people will be living further away from their electoral representatives, and rural MPs have to cover more land mass.
"Our small towns are already losing jobs and services. They need more muscle in Sydney parliament, not less."
Murrumbidgee Council mayor Ruth McRae said if the proposed changes are adopted, it would be a "shame" to lose the representation of Member for Albury Justin Clancy.
Cr McRae said council has worked extremely hard to build a collaborative relationship with Mr Clancy and he has proved himself to be a strong and highly approachable advocate for our area, particularly with the border closures during COVID.
"He has been a tremendous voice for our council and community, especially as a Member of Parliament for the governing party," Cr McRae said.
"Naturally, it will also increase the size of the Murray electorate, meaning the Member for Murray, Helen Dalton's time and resources will be stretched across a larger area."
Mrs Dalton said expected the expansion of the seat would make it harder for her to win.
"Young people keep leaving our small towns, so the seats just get bigger," she said.
"This favours the National Party, as young people tend not to vote for them.
"But it's so bad for the towns. When people leave, the government uses that as an excuse to close services and sell off assets."
Residents have until December 9 to make a submission to the proposed changes before a final ruling on the changes is made by the NSW Electoral Commission.
