"I always play eight numbers and I never watch the draw, so I spent a little bit of time not knowing I'd won," he said.
"Last night a mate called me up to tell me that someone down at the club had won the Eight Spot, so I thought I'd better go check my ticket!
"When I checked my ticket, I got such a surprise."
The $61,965.90 prize will be deposited at the bank while pandemic travel restrictions are still in place.
"That will give me time to make a little bit of a plan, but I am retired so I have no doubt I will find plenty of ways to enjoy it," the man said.
"When restrictions are lifted and we can travel further afield, I will take a holiday."
The winning ticket was played at the Coro Club.
"We couldn't believe it when we realised someone in our venue had won more than $60,000," club staff member Bianca Sutton said.
"Everyone was so excited for the winner."
