Competitive sports, art, a barbecue and family activities were on offer and many enthusiastic children and young people took advantage.
Linking Communities Network organised the event in partnership with Headspace, Intereach, the PCYC and with the Department of Communities and Justice providing the funding for the day.
Kirrilly Salvestro, the Deputy CEO of the Linking Communities Network highlighted school holidays as being potentially problematic for children stuck at home all day.
"We just recognized, along with the Department of Communities and Justice, that there is not a lot for kids to do in the school holidays. So we like to provide activities for the community." Mrs Salvestro said.
"We've got a 3 on 3 basketball competition with our highly competitive staff and we also have face painting and t-shirt painting." Mrs Silvestro explained.
The touch football game was a highlight, with many kids of all ages getting involved. One participant, fifteen year old Murrumbidgee High School student Joshua, said it was fun to be with all the people he considered to be his family.
Whilst school holidays are a necessary break from the demands of school, a lot of children struggle with boredom and too much screen time. Getting outside, being active and having valuable family time can be a great way for children to benefit from the break.
For families wishing to join in, another sports and activities day will be held next week. For more information contact Linking Communities Network on 6964 4804
