Everyday CareSouth are urging locals to raise their hands in an effort to find homes for foster children across the MIA.
"We are looking for people who have a genuine passion to provide a safe and nurturing home for a young person," regional manager Pru McManus said.
"There is no set criteria required to become a foster carer, you can be young or older, married or single.
"We need carers that are able to provide a range of care including emergency, respite and long term care, as well as carers who are willing to care for children while we work to reunite them with their family and those willing to consider adoption and guardianship."
Currently, there are just under 20,000 children in NSW who are currently in Out of Home Care, echoing the incredibly high need for more foster carers.
Local Griffith school teacher Lisa Sergi took on the challenge 15 months ago, saying it was one of the most rewarding experiences of her entire life.
"I've never had kids of my own and I've taught kids for 20 years, but this has been different to anything I have ever experienced in my life," she said.
"There are so many kids that need homes and families, and I'd recommend it to anyone, but it's hard.
"It's a roller coaster of emotions and nothing can prepare you for how difficult it is, but it's worth it."
Ms Sergi played a critical role in helping restore a young person to their family, which she says was a truly bittersweet moment.
