The Blueheelers will head into this weekend with plenty of confidence having picked up a 28-14 win over Wagga Brothers in the final regular-season round.
Brothers headed into the game needing a win to keep their season alive and it was quickly established that both teams were hunting the win.
Daniel Parrisoto was able to crash over for the Blueheelers in the ninth minute and a successful conversion from Judd Stevenson gave Yenda a 6-0 advantage.
Yenda were able to force a repeat set and after Elvis Nauer provided a strong return, Danvir Singh-Clarke went for a dart from dummy half before offloading to Jyrell Tyreva who broke through to score.
Brothers were undetered by the strong start and with Clarrie Harris crossing twice within 10 minutes the Wagga side were able to close the gap to two points.
Both sides struggled to make the next breakthrough and it wasn't until Elvis Nauer busted through the Brothers defence that the scoreboard was impacted to see Blueheelers lead 16-10 at the break.
Brothers fired into life at the start of the second half with Harris scoring his third of the match to bring the score back to two points but from that points Yenda's defensive players stood up with Sam Burley, Bodean Tereva and Oliver Bartter leading the way.
When the strong defence forced a drop ball from Brothers Riley Piva was there to pounce and scored under the post.
Yenda charged down the field to score once more from the kick off with Jake Ramponi weaving his way though the tired defence to put the game to bed.
The win helped keep the Blueheelers in second place and secured their two chances to get into the decider.
They will face a tough test in the Diesels who were able to get through the regular season undefeated and picked up 36-4 win over Young.
In the meeting between the two sides back in round four, it was a nail-biting encounter with the Diesels able to come away with a 16-10 victory.
In an added advantage for the Blueheelers fans, Group Nine has made the decision to live stream all of the finals to help with the difficulties around COVID-19 restrictions.
Access to the stream will come at the cost of $5 per day for the first two weeks of finals with the grand final charge to be $15, the same as the entry fee.
The Blueheelers and Diesels game will kick off the action at Twickenham at 9.30am on Sunday.
Meanwhile, in the under 18s, it was a narrow defeat to Young which has ended the Blueheelers season.
The Yenda was slow out of the gates again and they fell 10-0 down inside the first 15 minutes.
Deakin Bright was able to get Yenda on the board but the Young side crossed for two more tries before half time which saw them lead 20-4 at the break.
Bright completed his hat-trick early in the second half but with both tries going unconverted Yenda still trailed by eight points.
Young were next to score to give them a 26-12 lead with 15 minutes remaining but Yenda were able to mount a fightback with two tries to Jack Little and one to Feata Tauaneai to give the Blueheelers a 28-26 lead with five minutes remaining.
Yenda dropped the ball 10 metres from their own line saw Young awarded a scrum and after an offload they were in to take a 32-28 win.
The season is now over for the under 18s and the boys and staff have travelled over 3000kms in a couple of months but this extra effort should put them in a good position for their return to Group 20 in 2021.
