The Yoogali side was able to head into half time with a 3-1 lead thanks to a double to Dom Galluzzo and one to Mason Donadel and extended that lead early in the second half with Jordan Serena finding the back of the net.
It was a nervous final 10 minutes however, as the home side were able to find two goals, but Yoogali were able to hold on when the final whistle blew to take the three points.
Coach Sante Donadel knows the game could have been put to bed earlier but was pleased to walk away with the three points.
"We got away with it in the end, but we should have wrapped it up by half time," he said.
"We went in at half time at 3-1, and they were confident, and then we scored another goal to make it four, and everything seemed to be good, but in the last five minutes, it went to crap (sic) again you could say.
"We hit the panic button, and they scored two soft goals."
Despite the concession of the two late goals, Donadel praised the work of the defence who were under pressure for large parts of the game.
"They were playing four upfront for most of the game, so our defence did really well to contain them all game," he said.
"Obviously the last five minutes we kind of lost our shape. I think they wanted to score more goals. They weren't happy with 4-1.
"The lack of experience really tells in games like this."
The Yoogali coach feels that a lot of their issues come down to the way the side manages themselves over the course of the 90 minutes.
"I think we are burning ourselves out in the game because we are running that hard and at a lot of the time it is for nothing," he said.
"Then when we get to the back end of the game where we need that energy we probably haven't got it.
"Today, with 15 to go, we started lunging for tackles, and we started being a bit lazy because we thought we had the game won."
Next week will be another tough challenge for the Yoogali side as they look to keep pace with the top four as they travel to take on second-placed ANU.
"With any luck, we will have some players back because we were playing without a bench today," he said.
"I'd like to thank Dippa (Michael DePaoli) for playing in goals today to allow Luke (Armanini) to play at right-back so that we didn't have to call any first graders to play, so they were fresh for their game."
