Education Week, an annual celebration of NSW public education, has been appropriately themed 'Learning Together' in 2020, marking the achievements of local schools and students in unprecedented times.
Principal of Griffith East Public School, Andrew Pryor, says the theme perfectly encapsulates everything about learning during this difficult year.
"Education Week is always great to celebrate public education and celebrate what the kids do," Mr Pryor said.
"This year it's been a bit different, normally we have parents coming into the school and we do a lot of showcasing, but we've had to look outside the square this year to do it a bit differently.
"We have a teacher who has a drone license, and his suggestion was why don't we film the kids and do something a bit different."
For their unique celebration of Education Week, Griffith East Public School recreated the motto 'Learning Together' using students from their classes.
Teacher Rhys Thomas used his drone experience to film from the air, piecing together an incredible video which is now live on their school website.
"Each class had a letter and we did it over a few filming days, the kids really enjoyed it," Mr Pryor said.
"Rhys Thomas, who coordinated it all, put it together over many, many hours over the weekend.
"It was hard to keep their heads down and stop them from looking at the drone all the time."
There were also livestreams available as part of Education Week, which included seminars on topics like Aboriginal languages, teaching technology and film festivals.
"We've had a lot of parent involvement in our remote learning phase, and the theme encapsulates that this year," Mr Pryor said.
"One of my Kindergarten classes has a big project on oranges, so they're coming down to read me the story they've written and drink some orange juice with me.
"Really I think Education Week is a good promotion of public education, and it displays all the great things that are going on in public schools right now."
