It wasn't the start coach Steven Fattore was hoping for in his side's first away game of the season which also saw them having to come to terms with playing on a synthetic field.
"The ball was rolling a lot quicker and bouncing differently to what the boys are used to," he said.
"So we were a bit slow out of the blocks. They scored after a couple of minutes from a corner, but the boys didn't drop their heads, they kept to the game plan.
"I said to them at half time that we were comfortable with the game and to just keep plugging away and try and take our chances and we were able to do so in the second half."
With 20 minutes to go, Ryan Puntoriero pinched the ball high up the field before playing the ball into Bailey Morrissey who squared the ball across for a tap-in to Pearson Kasawaya to bring the side's level.
Morrissey popped up again five minutes later to give his side the lead before wrapping the game up with a scorcher from outside the box which found it's way into the top corner to secure the three points.
With the goals coming late in the game, Fattore felt it was the hard work the boys have put into to their fitness starting to pay off.
"We have been getting some extra sessions in with Chris Smith, and I think that has helped the boys a lot," he said.
" We came home strong and were still full of running at the end, and that certainly helped us get over the line."
It is the side's second win since the return since the shutdown and Fattore knew it would be important to start strong with the competition being decided without a finals series.
"Once the draw got reset we had an eye on these games as hopefully some good ones to put some solid performances in before we hit some of the really top teams in a few weeks," he said.
"We play Tigers in Canberra next weekend, and then after the bye, we have a couple of the heavy hitters in the competition in Radford and Canberra Croatia so that will be a good test for us.
"In every game, we have been dominant I've felt, but it's just a matter of getting those combinations worked out and keeping tight at the back, and we always knew we would be a tough team to beat."
In the other grades, the under 13s fell to their first defeat of the season in a tight 2-1 defeat while it was back-to-back losses for the under 16s as they fell 1-0.
