With the push of a button, emergency services can be called to any home within minutes, offering locals peace of mind and independence away from retirement homes.
The Griffith Lions Club have purchased 50 CareAlert units to date, at a cost of $14,000 to the club, but local Lion Ron Spencer says this is only the beginning.
"We saw a need to help out," Mr Spencer explained.
"According to the CEO of CareAlert, this is the only program on this kind of scale that any club in Australia has implemented."
Alongside the 50 units purchased by the Lions Club, a further 49 have been donated and 507 purchased by MIA community members.
All of these units have been installed free of charge by Ron Spencer and Danny Vardanega, bringing the total number of CareAlert units in Griffith to 606.
"Danny came on board about three or four years ago," Mr Spencer said.
"It worked out very well because Danny can help me prepare the units prior to installation, and he speaks Italian which is very handy.
"Plus it's much better to have two people do an install, for both safety sake and security sake."
The program has seen Danny and Ron re-visit installation sites on numerous occasions, providing services, battery changes and unit testing free of charge.
To date, there has been a total of 640 re-visits.
"It's full-on, it's non-stop," Mr Spencer said.
"At the moment I'm waiting on five units to turn up so I can install them.
"Usually there's at least 10 to 20 units that go in each month, and then we have to provide backup if a unit plays up."
The project has been very well received by the community, winning the Griffith City Council's 'Community Project of the Year Award' in 2015.
The "extremely rewarding" endeavour has also attracted a number of supporters, with Mr Spencer wanting to give special thanks to Bunnings Warehouse Griffith.
"They have been phenomenal," Mr Spencer said.
"Each time we approach them there is just no problem, whatever we ask for we're given."
