Griffith's deputy mayor has said a lack of planning for the Kidman Way between Griffith and Hanwood is the reason why conflicts have been common for developments along the route.

Councillor Doug Curran called for the creation of a masterplan into developments along the road during a discussion as to a development application for a proposed service station during Tuesday's council meeting.
Cr Curran said the whole of council has to take some blame and needs to be proactive when it comes to how the area should develop in the future, adding the idea as an amendment to the approval of the service station application.
"We've had a lot of conflict with applications out there in the past," Cr Curran said.
"I think it's actually council's fault - and I'm not blaming staff, I'm saying councillors are in this as well.
"We haven't been proactive and set about how we think that area should look."

Cr Curran cited conflicts arising from the proposed service station development as well as conflict arising from the proposed Terra Ag development - which was also in front of council seeking to amend development conditions and stage the construction.
Griffith's sustainable development director Phil Harding said council staff have been "unofficially" looking at developing a plan.
"It's a very important strategy which we need to work on, but it's not directly associated with this DA condition," Mr Harding said.
Mayor John Dal Broi said the idea should be examined, but not added to a specific application.
'I'm not trying to deny that we shouldn't do what you are suggesting," Councillor Dal Broi said.
"We'll get briefed at a workshop, identify the exact area we wish to masterplan and do it as we're doing our LEP updates and our land use strategy."
Cr Curran said while he was willing to see the item listed for the next council workshop, he requested council take a matter of urgency on the plan.
"I just want to see some urgency on this," Cr Curran said.
"By putting it as part of the recommendation in no way to stifle this proposal, but to try and get it happening sooner rather than including it in a LEP review and things that may take us six, 12, 18 [months], two years time.
"I think that our inaction out there has caused this conflict and I think it will continue to cause conflict until such a time as we really get on top of this."
