The Griffith side won the toss but were on the back foot early with Fergus Cattanach (3/28) taking the wickets of Mitchell Williams-Hedges (2) and Haydn Pascoe (0) in the third over.
Griffith skipper Theo Valeri (0) didn't fare much better falling to Brad Pocock (3/48) while Tom Valeri (9), Liam Greenaway (5) and Craig Burge (0) all fell without troubling the scorers leaving Griffith on 6/36 after 12 overs.
The fall of Burge brought Hicken to the crease, and alongside Dean Bennett, the pair were able to get Griffith out of a potential cup losing position.
The pair added much-needed stability and put on 92 runs over the next 18 overs before Bennett (39) was dismissed by Dean Aylett (3/22) who followed it up with the wicket of Hicken (73) four overs later.
Valeri paid credit to the way both batsmen played under extreme pressure.
"I said to the boys that sort of proves that at any stage in the game when you are down and out, one good partnership and you can definitely bring yourself back into the game," Valeri said.
"When he (Hicken) gets going we know how destructive he is and he just proved that again today and definitely a match-winning knock in the end, but he was well back up by Dean (Bennett) as well."
Connor Bock (6) and Ben Rowston (8) added some late runs to see Griffith eventually bowled out for 151.
Griffith was able to make a strong start with the ball as Pascoe (2/6) and Valeri (3/30) took five quick wickets to see Hay fall to 5/12 after eight overs.
Blake and Jason Aylett looked to try and rebuild their innings and were able to put on 28 runs before Blake (15) was dismissed by Bock (1/18).
When Jason Aylett (32) was stumped off the bowling of Jack Hutchinson (3/19), Hay lost their final three wickets for 10 runs to see Griffith hold onto the cup with a 62-run win.
"We would have been pretty disappointed if we lost this week and ended our rep season," Valeri said.
"To get a crack at holding the cup next week will be pretty big for us."
Griffith will face Junee in the final challenge of the season.
