Sekope Rasoqosoqo, 24, was charged for his offensive behaviour in a public place after punching a man two times in the face while drunk.
Submissions made by his legal representative Piers Blomfield outlined Rasoqosoqo was called to action after seeing what he believed to be an escalating argument between a man and woman at a Griffith club.
Rasoqosoqo saw the argument and went up to try to mediate.
When he saw the man and another man in the club fighting across the entire bar area, he came in and threw two punches to the first man's face, dropping him to the ground.
He should've pulled back... he was trying to do the right thing but his actions could have escalated it further.

Other patrons and staff ultimately broke up the fight and called police.
After a number of attempts to get in touch with Rasoqosoqo, he handed himself into the police station a few days later.
When officers showed Rasoqosoqo the CCTV footage, he said "yeah it looked like I threw, I dunno if I connected."
Initially asking for a conviction without further punishment, Mr Blomfield told the court Rasoqosoqo was only trying to break up the fight in good will.
He did concede his client's reaction was "unreasonable", perhaps fueled by how much alcohol he had to drink.
"He should've pulled back... he was trying to do the right thing but his actions could have escalated it further," Mr Blomfield said.
"He could've been charged with more, such as initiating an affray due to the number of people involved."
This was the first case of violence on Rasoqosoqo's criminal history, he told the court.

Magistrate Joy Boulos accepted the submissions, with Rasoqosoqo being "well and truly" affected by alcohol.
Yet she said the manner in which he became involved in "someone else's argument" could've lead to harsher penalties.
"You could have been charged with something much more serious," she told Rasoqosoqo.
With this the only matter of violence in his history and his early plea of guilty, he was convicted and fined $100.
