Griffith City Council said the pool was closed after a child is believed to have had a seizure in the program pool.
Paramedics were called at 2.53pm to reports of a young person who was unresponsive.
When paramedics arrived, GRALC staff were performing CPR on the child, who was in cardiac arrest.
The child was taken to Griffith Base Hospital by ambulance in a critical condition and is expected to be taken to the Sydney Children's Hospital for further treatment.
GRALC staff have been offered counselling.
Due to the hot weather, GRALC waived entry fees on Friday to provide relief to people wanting to escape the heat.
Griffith City Council will re-open the leisure centre on Saturday, December 21 and entry will be free due to the forecast high temperatures.
