Brendan Hicken took the lead in the opening overs with a quickfire 51-run partnership with Brad Hornery before Hicken (47) was bowled by Marc Tucker just short of fifty.
Oliver Bartter joined Hornery, and the pair were able to add 18 runs before Hornery (9) and Bartter (10) both fell in quick succession to the bowling of Aditha Jayasuriya (2/19).
Jarryd Day hung around with Micheal Crosato with a 45-run stand before Day (9) fell to the bowling of James Roche (1/17).
Crosato (35), Matthew McGann (41) and Charlie Cunial (13) were able to make contributions to see Hanwood declare on 8/189.
If Exies wanted to secure a winning draw, they needed to score at more than 4.39 runs per over from their 42 overs.
The Eagles didn't get off to the best start with Jamie Winkler (4) falling to the bowling of Dean Wynne.
The start didn't improve with Jayasuriya (2) falling to the bowling of McGann, and Tom Spry (7) dismissed by Wynne soon after to see Exies sitting on 3/25.
Justin Winkler was the steady head at the top of the order and tried to get their side back on track with Travers Pickmere.
The pair were able to put on 18 runs before Pickmere became Wynne's (3/32) third victim.
Justin Winkler (30) fell with the score on 60, but Exies were able to find some solid footing with Roche and Craig Burge. The pair were able to put on 68 runs before Roche (35) was caught off the bowling of McGann (2/21).
Burge (25*) and Exies captain Andy Arnold (7*) were able to see off the remaining three overs to finish their 42 overs on 6/137.
It meant the result came down to the run rate and because Exies were only able to score at 3.26 runs per over Hanwood were able to take the four points.
Hanwood will take on Coro next weekend as the competition returns to 40-over cricket while Exies will take on Diggers.
