Katoomba-based author Steven Herrick will be speaking at the Griffith City Library on October 21 as part of a two-week tour of areas in regional NSW, with the stop at the library focusing on another aspect of the author's bibliography in his experiences cycling through Europe and Asia.
Mr Herrick, who has written 24 books for children and young adults along with nine self-published travel books, said the talk aims to showcase the benefits and new experiences one could have when travelling by cycling as compared to trains and cars.
"When you're cycling, you always think you are in the zone," Mr Herrick said.
"Sometimes when we are tourists we are so focused on visiting [important sites like] the Eiffel Tower, visiting the Louvre... In the Czech Republic, there are some towns which I had never heard of, that are just spectacular when you pass through them.
"These are the things you find on a bicycle."
The talk aims to provide interested travellers with a cornucopia of insider knowledge into the world of cycle-travel, with Mr Herrick offering up tips and ideas of places to visit and things to see, eat and do, including what to do if you see a number of worker vans parked in front of a restaurant.
"If you see three or more Renault Kangoos [parked outside], you should visit that restaurant," Mr Herrick said.
"They serve some of the most authentic food around."

Mr Herrick said cycling is a passion of his and his latest travel book, Kimchi and Kimonos, details a trip across South Korea and Japan, with other books detailing trips through the Swiss Alps, Germany and the Scottish Highlands.
While the stop at the library is intended to be his only public appearance during the tour, Mr Herrick will also be visiting schools in the area to give talks to children about his novels and poetry.
Mr Herrick has won two NSW Premier's Literary Awards and this year has seen his novel By The River shortlisted for a German Literature Youth Book of the Year award as well as winning the German Catholic Youth Book of the Year award.
He said it was a surprise to see his work pick up accolades outside of Australia.
"I can't read those books as they are translated into German," Mr Herrick said.
"But they have given my books a second life."
The event is due to begin at 5.30pm and those wishing to attend can RSVP by visiting the Western Riverina Libraries website.
