Toby Price pays visit to Coleambally for final round of the Toby Price Challenge

When he wasn't lighting up the track on his bike, he spent the day lighting up the faces of his fans who came in droves to have a chat to the two-time Dakar winner as they looked to get autographs and photos with the local legend.

Price said it was good to be back to where it all began for him.

"They guys here have put on a good track for us today, and it's cool to be back out where it all started off," he said.

"Seeing all the little kids running around and watching them ride and enjoying the experience, I had all those years ago.

"Hopefully we can keep the series going and keep it strong for everyone."

Price is gearing up to travel over to Morocco on Wednesday for the final round of the FIM Cross-Country Rallies World Championship which Price is the defending champion.

Unfortunately, the wrist injury that has plagued Price since the 2019 Dakar Rally at the start of the year has limited the defending champion to only one round in Chile earlier in September which saw Price finish fourth.

"It's (wrist) not the greatest, and we have a lot of issues with it," he said.

"I was meant to have another little quick surgery last week, but I have the last round of the World Championship coming up.

"Need to do that first, and then I'll come back and have the surgery then. Just have to grit it out and bare it a little bit more."

Price admitted that the season hadn't gone the way he had planned after the strong start back in January in Peru.

"The year kicked off extremely well, but it went on a bit of a downhill spiral for us pretty quick with the wrist injury and all the damage we did to it from Dakar," he said.

"We haven't done too much racing this year ... we did the last round in Chile just a couple of weeks ago, and our speed is good in the desert."

With long amounts of time spent on the bike while traversing challenging conditions, a lot of things can cross a rider's mind.

"Sometimes you sit there and think about how much you'd like a nice steak sandwich dinner or what the family is up to or take in the scenery and what is happening out there," he said.

"Then there are other times where you are concentrating fully on what is ahead of you. It is never easy, and it is never easy riding for us, but we get to enjoy a lot of remote places."

Next year will see the Dakar Rally leave South America after a 10-year stint on the continent and make it's way to the Arabian Peninsula from 2020 onwards.

Price said he wasn't too sure what to expect when he travels to Saudi Arabia in January of next year but said he would be on the grid as he looks to defend his crown.

"Hopefully it is all good things, but the main thing is the safety side of things for a few of us is a bit of a concern," he said.

"I'm sure the race will be held extremely well, and you never know everyone could be there with open arms and welcoming and wanting to have us there.

"We need to try and defend that number one place. We will definitely be fit and healthy by then so it should be all sweet."

With just over three months before the 2020 Dakar, Price will take on the final round of the World Championship before a couple of months of testing.

"We will be having a lot of testing in Morocco and Spain and probably a little bit in Portugal as well," he said.

"There is plenty on for us at the moment."
