More than 3100 pigeons took off from Goolgowi as part of two events organised by the Central Cumberland Racing Pigeon Federation.
The race requires the pigeons to make the trip to Sydney, with the birds scored on a velocity scale relative to the distance between Goolgowi and the owner's homes and the time it takes to fly there.
Secretary for the federation John Jeffrey said last Saturday's races were slightly delayed due to the early morning fog, with the scheduled 7.30am release delayed by an hour to allow for the fog to clear but hopes this weekend's race will run on time.
"The pigeons navigate by the sun," he said.
"Hopefully it's clear [on Saturday] and we get a good race out of it."
The larger race of the two - which saw 2185 pigeons take part - was won by birds representing M. Bou-Said from the Seven Hills area, with their pigeons making the 484 kilometre trip in six hours, twelve minutes and forty-four seconds, while the second race was taken out by A. Brown from the Mount Druitt area, whose five birds made the trip to Sydney in six hours, three minutes and two seconds.

However, Goolgowi residents wishing to hang out their laundry on Saturday might want to hold off until later in the day, with another race scheduled for 7.30am on August 24.
Those curious to see the start of the pigeon race can do so by heading to the road between Kidman Way and Cobram Street.
There are seven more races scheduled for the 2019 season after this weekend's race, with pigeons due to take off from locations including Booligal and Hatfield in NSW, Mildura in Victoria and Renmark in South Australia.
The 2019 season has seen the start line continually pushed further away from Sydney, with the first event taking place in Bathurst before moving to Cowra, Grenfell and West Wyalong before heading to Goolgowi.
