A local school student has placed among some of the nation's best young swimmers after claiming five medals at the recent national championships.

Murrumbidgee Regional High School student Nicole Taylor, 13, represented New South Wales at the recent School Sport Australia Swimming Championships held at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre from July 28 to 31.
Taylor competed in the 13 to 15 girls multi-class categories and claimed three silver medals as part of a five medal haul during the event.
She claimed silver in the 100 metre butterfly, 4x50 metres individual medley relay and 4x40 metres freestyle relay events while picking up bronze in the 50 metre butterfly and 200 metre individual medley events.
Taylor finished the event with six new personal best times across the ten events she competed in.

Swimmers with disabilities compete in the multi-class categories, which are scored using a points system based on the swimmer's time compared to a base time for each classification.
Taylor swims under the S15 classification, which is used for swimmers who have hearing loss.
She was one of 120 swimmers representing New South Wales at the championships.
