The scrappy match on Sunday saw the winning team get slapped with seven yellow cards, with the first scorer of the match Joseph Poli getting sent off with a red card during the second half. Yoogali SC kept it clean and kept the pace up throughout the match, with Grant Davidson scoring their single goal, but it wasn't enough to defeat the top of the ladder team.
Despite the trouble, the game was clinched in the final 10 minutes, with Nathan Battacchio swooping in for the deciding goal.
"Extremely proud" of how his boys played and where they are now, Coach Ross Marando said it was a great game all round.
"We showed a lot of heart near the end, and to get the goal in the last 10 to 15 minutes when we had ten men, and to hold out for the win, that was the boys' resilience and fight," Marando
And of course for them both, the match standout was Battocchio.
"He scored a single goal, took on three players and buried it, so he was a standout. He's been out for about a month, so to come back and do that was really good," Marando commended. While admitting there were a few "touchy moments", Captain Michael Perre was just as proud.
"We played hard, a few touchy moments, a few bad decisions, but we came out on top in the end," Perre said. Now, the pair say a bit more fitness training and discipline for the young team will keep them in good stead for the next match against Hanwood FC.
