Two Blues coach Sean Browning declared they may have had a touch of good fortune in the timing and prognosis of Ellis' injury.
"We just got lucky, with the break. He's out for a month," Browning said.
"But we had the win, then we had the rep bye, now we've got two games and a club bye so it looks like he'll only miss The Rock (Yerong Creek) and Temora hopefully."
The loss of Ellis for Saturday's game against TRYC has been countered by two valuable inclusions with midfielder-forward Mal Fernie (pec injury) back for his first game since round one last year, and former coach Will Overs (shoulder) also to play his first game of the season.
Overs will bring a presence to the Two Blues forward line as they chase back-to-back wins.
"Mal and Will will go forward to try to fix our scoring problems," Browning said.
"Will's like another coach out there so it's handy having him in the forward line, providing direction.
"He's a good mark and a nice kick but just his organising help will be good. Our guys have all got the ability to play the positions there but we're just getting a bit lost sometimes and having a bit of direction up forward will help."
Fernie was a superb addition to the Two Blues in 2017 - he was in their best in nine of 13 games - but missed last year after requiring an operation on a pec muscle torn in the first round.
Browning said they decided not to rush him into this season but the Canberra-based Fernie is ready to make his return against the Magpies.
The Barellan coach is expecting his players to lift in the absence of Ellis, knowing they need to get the job done themselves, as they did in the last quarter against Coleambally.
