Bupa Griffith aged care will be given a second chance, after being hit with sanctions for "critical deficiencies" in the way they were looking after elderly residents.

The Department of Health handed down the sanctions six months ago after discovering "serious and detrimental failings in several areas" including hygiene and staff training.
Those sanctions expired on Tuesday, but a Department of Health spokeswoman said they would continue to keep a close eye on Bupa Griffith to make sure their health standards were up to scratch.
"The Department and the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission is monitoring the provider's return to compliance to ensure that care recipients continue to receive appropriate care," she said.

For the past six months Bupa Griffith has had to follow the advice of an independent adviser, retrain staff to fill in the "gaps in learning", and consult with residents and their families.
A Bupa spokeswoman said the aged care home had made a lot of improvements in the last six months.
"We have worked hard to address the issues identified by the Department of Health. Providing quality care and support to our residents is our absolute priority," she said.
"We are focused on ongoing improvements at the home, and also regaining the trust of our residents and their family members."
Several residents and family members had filed official complaints prior to the sanctions coming down on Bupa Griffith.
One of the complainants, who described himself as a Bupa Griffith "inmate", told The Area News the conditions at the aged care home had left him feeling "miserable".
Before the sanctions came in he claimed several other residents would be left sitting in their own feces and urine for hours on end, due to lack of staff.
Continence management was just one of 16 items listed as reasons for the sanction, and more details can be found on the My Aged Care website.
The Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission will do a review audit to determine whether the aged care home meets the minimum standards, and the verdict will be published on the commission's website.
