Tom Sellars was at the centre of the Waratahs success as he got his side off to a flying start with two tries in the opening five minutes.
Kose Lelei and Graham Levu were able to find their way across the line before Sellars wrapped up a first-half hat-trick with his third with 10 minutes left before the break to see the Waratahs leading 28-0 at the interval.
Semi Rauluni continued the try scoring for the Waratahs before Hay was able to hit back with two tries in quick succession to Toby Crighton helping to reduce the gap to 34-12 with 15 minutes gone in the second half.
That was as good as it got for the Magpies as Sellars crossed for his fourth try of the game while Niu George and Jonathon Sila helped to wrap up the big win for the Waratahs.
The Waratahs will now prepare for the Doug Alpen Shield on Friday while Hay will have the Easter weekend off before taking on DPC.
