He is now recruiting members of the community to join a Christmas Working Group, and together they will be coming up with ideas to jazz up the town come Christmas time.
He's already had many people come on board with their ideas: strings of lights across Banna Avenue, displays in windows, lights under trees - the suggestions have come thick and fast.
They will also be coming up with ideas for community activities to help spread the Christmas cheer around town.
"It all adds to the atmosphere of Christmas," Cr Zappacosta said.
"There's a huge amount of possibilities for what we can do."

Griffith City Council has set aside $30,000 for the Christmas budget to prevent a repeat of last year's embarrassment.
Council copped so much criticism over the lack of decorations that mayor John Dal Broi came out and apologised profusely to the people of Griffith.
Wild rumours started spreading that the decorations had been eaten by rats in Cr Zappacosta's shed, which he dismissed as untrue.
Cr Zappacosta had been the chair of a Christmas working group in the past, but interest waned over the years and they eventually stopped meeting.
Yet Cr Zappacosta said he has been buoyed by the keen interest showed by members of the community.
He said he's looking forward to breathing life back into the Christmas Working Group alongside some new members and new ideas.
"This is all about creating that Christmas spirit," Cr Zappacosta said.
Those interested in joining can fill in a form at the Griffith City Council building until April 25.
