After winning the toss and electing to bat Exies were able to make a strong start with Craig Burge and Travers Pickmere putting on 32 runs for the first wicket before Burge (15) fell to the bowling of Matt Peruzzi.
Exies captain Phil Burge joined Pickmere at the crease, and the pair were able to build on the opening partnership with a 33-run stand before Matt Peruzzi removed Burge (10) while Luke Peruzzi was able to pick up the wicket of Pickmere (35) four runs later to have Exies sitting on 3/69.
Exies were able to keep the score ticking over with Tom Spry (25), Jamie Winkler (38), Aditha Jayasuriya (14) and Marc Tucker (21) all getting starts in the Exies middle order to get them into a strong position as Exies were bowled out for 208 after 75.3 overs.
Theo Valeri (3/40) and Matt Peruzzi (3/43) were the pick of the bowlers for Diggers while Luke Peruzzi (2/56) and Dean Villata (1/34) claimed the remaining wickets.
Diggers lost the wicket of Matt Peruzzi (2) early to the bowling of Tucker before Scott Smith, and Theo Valeri added some stability with a 25-run partnership before Smith (11) became the Spry's first wicket to have Diggers on 2/38.
The Valeri brothers, Theo and Tom, were able to get their side moving in the right direction with a 42-run third wicket partnership before Tom (33) was caught by Jimmy Nancarrow off the bowling of Mulder (1/28).
Michael Duncan came out to join Theo Valeri and looked to keep the good work moving as he scored at more than a run-a-ball to help Diggers get to 119 before Valeri (34) fell to the bowling of Nancarrow (1/18).
Duncan continued to give his side a chance as he took the leading role in a 26-run stand with Craig Lugton before Spry struck to remove Duncan (57) and Dean Aylett (0) while Ashcroft (1/25) took the wicket of Lugton (7).
Brendan Wade (15) and Dean Villata (8) got their side to within 15 runs before they were bowled out for 193.
Diggers went on the search for wickets early in Exies second innings, and while Luke Peruzzi (2/8) picked up Craig (2) and Phil Burge (4), Travers Pickmere (29) and Jamie Winkler (4) were able to get their side safely to stumps on the second day.
