It’s one of the most hotly anticipated events on the Griffith calendar, but this year the organisers have set new ambitious goals for themselves.
In 2018 it attracted 800 runners and raised $36,000, but for 2019 they’re hoping to entice 2000 runners and raise $80,000.
If they can somehow pull it off it will make this year’s City2Lake over twice as big as last year.
The money will go towards Can Assist, which currently helps over 150 local families in their struggle with cancer.
City2Lake committee member Cheryl wood said Can Assist had given so much to the community, and was hoping the community could give back to Can Assist.
“The need is there, and that’s why we're doing this,” Ms Wood said.
“Every day people are walking into this office because they need help.”
Over the past 16 years, Can Assist president Olga Forner has helped more than 4,000 families suffering from cancer.
Not only does she provide financial support to families in their hour of need, she's also been a steadfast pillar of emotional support for those who need a bit of human compassion.
Her kindness and hard work for the community has not gone unnoticed; dozens of businesses have give their support to the cause both in cash and in kind.
Ms Forner said she was blown away by the sheer volume of people who have come on board and let them a hand.
“We are overwhelmed with the support,” Ms Forner said.
“I’m especially appreciative of council, Casella, and Visy - they’re our platinum sponsors and without them none of this would have been possible.”
The starting gun will fire on March 10 at 8am from Jubilee Oval and the runners, walkers, and cyclers will make their way to Lake Wyangan’s picnic area 9 kilometres away.
There will be a bus service from the lake to the start line leaving at 7.15am and at the end of the event there will be a bus service from the lake back to Jubilee Oval.
Registrations are open now, and people who are interested can sign up at city2lake.org or call Cheryl Wood on 0409 082 217.
