Griffith Inspector Kim Traynor said Australia Day revellers were well behaved, with relatively low levels of criminal activity over the weekend.
There were only a couple of incidences; at around 5.20pm on Australia Day police discovered cannabis in a woman’s car.
The 52-year-old woman was driving down Banna Avenue when she was pulled over by police for a stop and search.
Police found a plastic bag containing 30 grams of cannabis, and the woman said it belonged to her.
She will face Griffith Local Court for possession of an illegal drug.
At around 10.10am on Sunday two vehicles crashed at the intersection of Kookora Street and Murrumbidgee Avenue after one of them failed to give way.
A 24-year-old woman driving a silver Mitsubishi Magna crossed the intersection without giving way to a 43-year-old man driving a white Holden Commodore wagon.
The man tried to swerve out of the path of the woman, but he ended up hitting the front of her car causing damage to both vehicles.
The man received cuts to his head and was rushed to Griffith Base Hospital by an ambulance.
The woman was fined for failing to give way at the intersection.
Between 9pm on Sunday and 3pm on Monday thieves stole red Victa lawn mower from a carport out the front of a house on Holmes Crescent.
Another carport on Harward Road was robbed between 8.30am and 9.30pm on Monday.
The thieves stole a refrigerator, lawn mower, dining table, and six chairs.
Anybody with information can share it with police anonymously through Crime Stoppers on 1300 333 000 or Griffith police on 6969 4299.
