The $224 million Griffith Base Hospital redevelopment is currently progressing in two streams: the continuation of enabling works and the progression of the stage two masterplanning and concept design.
Tender submissions are currently being assessed for further stage one enabling works construction, which is set to continue throughout 2019.
This construction will include the new Ambulatory Care Hub and expansion of the inpatient and critical care units.
The new Ambulatory Care Hub is set to provide increased oncology services and extensions to Critical Care and General Inpatient areas.
A spokesman from MLHD said this stage of work is expected to be completed in 2020.
“We are on track to award contracts for this work in the coming months,” the spokesman said.
The completion of the temporary renal unit and its opening in October last year was one of the first construction works undertaken as part of the redevelopment.
Construction begun in late March and saw seats increase from six to 10, with the addition of a social worker, aboriginal liaison officer for two days, as well as a chronic kidney disease (CKD) nurse.
MLHD have said there are no changes to the overarching masterplan, however concept planning is currently being developed in consultation with hospital staff.
“This allows us to refine the masterplan and start to determine where everything should be placed to ensure the redeveloped hospital works as efficiently as possible.”
