“I’ve never seen such a dumb society as this one; they make an art form of it here,” he said.
His remarks come at a time when thousands of dead fish are washing up on the shores of the Menindee lakes and toxic blue-green algae is choking Lake Wyangan.
The authorities responsible have been quick to point out that the drought has been a major contributing factor, but people like Mr Sainty are pointing the finger of blame squarely at the water managers.
He says experts like him have been left out of the conversation when it comes to water management.
He used to work with the NSW Water Resources Commission for 20 years in wetland management and has given private consulting in the field of wetland ecology, design, and management.
He says that these days, however, his advice has gone unheeded.
