A chapter of Griffith’s history ended when the schoolbell rang at Wade and Griffith High for the school holidays on Thursday.

When the gates reopen in 2019, Wade and Griffith High will be no more; they will have been merged together to form Murrumbidgee Regional High School.
The two schools will keep their separate campuses, but the names that many residents associate with the fond memories of their youth will be resigned to the history books.
But there are some alumni out there who are determined to keep the memories alive, and they gathered to bid farewell to the schools for one final time.
One of them was John Robinson, who studied at Griffith High from 1947 to 1951 and returned as a teacher from 1959 to 1989.
He has many fond memories of his time as a student and teacher, and he still keeps the pictures of his graduating classes.
He retired some time ago, but his memories of the good old days are as strong as ever and he continues to have a strong attachment to the old school building.
“This building is architecturally significant, and it’s a building that has a deep significance to the people of Griffith,” Mr Robinson said.
Mr Robinson’s sentiments are echoed by his old student Graham Slingsby, who took his science class in 1981, ‘82, and ‘83.
“It was a fabulous school and the teachers were all committed professionals,” Mr Slingsby said.
“A lot of students I went to school with got top marks in the HSC and went on to do some amazing things in their lives; it’s all due to the magnificent country environment we’re in here and the culture that existed at that time.”
Mr Slingsby lives in Albury, but he drove all the way to Griffith High School to pay his respects to the school that gave him so many fond memories.
“To me, Griffith High School represents the dedication and commitment of the teachers and staff towards the students,” he said.
