The alert is due to the increased risk of fire in the Griffith, Leeton, Carrathool, Hay, Murrumbidgee and Narrandera shires.
The RFS is asking farmers and landholders to stop and check local weather conditions before deciding whether it is safe to continue harvesting.
People who are harvesting are advised to;
- Stop harvesting.
- Check weather conditions, the grain harvesting guide and their equipment.
- Only resume harvesting if it is safe and regularly re-assess the prevailing conditions.
It’s advised farmers consider the relative humidity, temperature and wind speed.
Friday’s fire danger for the Northern Riverina region is rated as Very High.
The NSW RFS recommends families review their bush fire survival plan and monitor weather conditions and be ready to act if necessary.
The NSW RFS regularly updates its website www.rfs.nsw.gov.au with warnings and publishes a harvesting guide for farmers.
